Tethered chargers have the cable permanently attached to them. To use the charger, simply unwind the cable and plug it into your car. This limits the charger to one type of cable – this is only an issue if you share the charger with others or you tend to change your car often.
Untethered doesn’t have a fixed cable, it is essentially just the socket. To use this type of charger, you need to plug in your own cable. This is good for shared chargers, but it does mean the cable must be unplugged and stored between uses. If you change your car, you just need to purchase a compatible cable.
